Set in the small town of Woodland, Ohio, He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother follows Michael, a young boy growing up in a close-knit, churchgoing family in the 1970s. The novel is inspired by Williams's own childhood and dedicated to his real-life brother, Dave.
