The 17th annual Florida International Bankers Association Inc. (FIBA) AML Compliance Conference took place at the Intercontinental Miami in the heart of Miami, FL. with investment expert Reda Bedjaoui in attendance. The event, which is the biggest of its kind in the nation, brought banks together with regulators for three days of open dialogue and problem- solving in a progressive atmosphere. Bedjaoui, the CEO of Redbed Investments, was able to network and exchange with key compliance minded experts, while sampling the newest KYC and Sanctions screening tools in display by leading Finch firms.

Before discussing the event, Reda Bedjaoui explained that FIBA is a non-profit trade association that was founded in 1979. Its membership features the largest financial institutions in the world, including more than 70 foreign and domestic banks. Being composed of members from leading nations across the globe, the organization’s primary focus is Latin America trade finance, international correspondent banking and international wealth management/private banking services for non-US residents. FIBA works closely with FELABAN, the Federation of Latin American Banks, which represents over 600 financial institutions, to provide specialized AML certification and training to industry practitioners. As a leading trade organization focused on international banking and finance, FIBA frequently meets with regulators in Washington, submits comment letters and positions papers, and is one of the most respected voices in the industry.

At the AML Compliance Conference in Miami, Bedjaoui was among the 1,400 participants in attendance from over 200 financial services companies. Over the course of three days, he contributed with other experts to conversations on the ways AML compliance and Bank Secrecy Act requirements impact the financial industry. Panel discussions covered topics including what’s new on the AML landscape, different compliance technologies, non-bank relationships, enforcement actions and more. David Schwartz, president and CEO of FIBA, which is based in Miami, commented on the importance of the event to the South Florida Business Journal: “It brings together the regulators on one side, who can discuss what their expectations are, and the banks on the other side, talking about how they are trying to comply and how daunting a task it is. The big strength of this conference is that you have such a diverse group in an open dialogue, and everyone is interested in finding practical solutions.”

Reda Bedjaoui is the CEO of Redbed Investments, an investment firm offering expertise in futures and options trading and private equity. Prior to founding his own firm, Bedjaoui solidified his reputation as a leading real estate investor and developer with successful ventures in the North America, the United Kingdom and the Middle East. Oturu scores 30 as Minnesota beats No. 19 Michigan 75-67

Feb 26, 2020

MINNEAPOLIS — Daniel Oturu shook off an injury and had a career game to help Minnesota take down another ranked opponent. Oturu scored a career-high 30 points and the Gophers went on a late 11-0 run to beat No. 19 Michigan 75-67 on Sunday. The sophomore center had 20 points in a dominant first half, and he continued his roll with six quick points after the break. But with 14:35 remaining, he hit the deck hard while fighting for a rebound. He stayed on the floor for nearly five minutes, clutching his left shoulder as a hush fell over the...

Bey scores 33, leads No. 16 Villanova past Georgetown 80-66

Feb 26, 2020

PHILADELPHIA — Saddiq Bey hit eight 3-pointers and scored a career-high 33 points to lead No. 16 Villanova to an 80-66 win over Georgetown on Saturday. Bey, a 6-foot-8 sophomore forward, hadn't been much of a 3-pointer shooter this season for the Wildcats (12-3, 3-1 Big East). He'd made only 21 and four of those came in a nonconference game against Ohio. He shot just 3-for-10 overall in a win this week at Creighton, hardly a sign he was about to bust out with a career game against the Hoyas (11-6, 1-3). Left open, and determined to shoot, Bey had...

Former UConn coach Jim Calhoun earns 900th career win

Feb 26, 2020

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Jim Calhoun’s 900th win looked like so many others during a Hall of Fame coaching career. He stomped. He screamed. He slammed objects. The only real difference is the sideline he now controls. The longtime Connecticut coach added another milestone Friday night when the University of Saint Joseph beat Pratt Institute 105-61. Now in his second season coaching in Division III, Calhoun joined Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Boeheim and Bob Knight — all former rivals and national champions at college basketball’s highest level — as the only coaches to coach at least 10 seasons in Division I...

BOSTON — David Pastrnak had a hat trick to extend his point streak to 12 games and Jake DeBrusk added two goals, including the go-ahead score in the third period, to help the Boston Bruins hold off the Winnipeg Jets 5-4 on Thursday night. It was Pastrnak's third hat trick this season and eighth of his career. He has nine goals and 10 assists during his current point streak, and his 35 goals overall lead the NHL. Kyle Connor, Andrew Copp, Neal Pionk and Mark Scheifele had goals for the Jets. Nikolaj Ehlers added a pair of assists. Jets goaltender...

Cowboys to introduce McCarthy as club's 9th coach Wednesday

Feb 26, 2020

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys will introduce Mike McCarthy as the ninth coach in franchise history Wednesday. The club made the announcement Tuesday, a day after McCarthy reached agreement on a deal to replace Jason Garrett. It's the second coaching stop for the 56-year-old McCarthy, who won a Super Bowl and went to the playoffs nine times in 12-plus seasons with Green Bay. The Packers won the title at the home of the Cowboys nine years ago. They went to the NFC championship game four times under McCarthy, who is 125-77-2 in the regular season and 10-8 in the...
